How Eco Clean Marine Got Started

It began with a simple idea: if the opportunity to make a difference doesn’t exist, create it.

In 2021, Founder Courtney Dombroski was searching for ways to give back to the community. While several organizations were doing great work, many were still recovering from the effects of the pandemic and volunteer opportunities were limited. Wanting to become more involved, she continued looking for a cause she could truly connect with.

One day, while servicing her Feed the Fish machine at the Original Oyster House in Gulf Shores, Courtney noticed trash scattered all around the gazebo and blowing toward the water. Frustrated by what she saw, she grabbed a pair of gloves and began picking it up herself.

As she worked, something clicked.

Rather than waiting to find the right organization, she realized she could take action herself. What started as a single trash pickup quickly turned into a commitment to return month after month and make a lasting difference.

That commitment became Eco Clean Marine.

Founded in January 2022, Eco Clean Marine has grown from a one-person cleanup effort into a volunteer-driven nonprofit serving communities across the Gulf Coast. Through monthly cleanups, environmental education, and community partnerships, the organization has mobilized thousands of volunteers and helped remove more than 60,000 pounds of litter from local waterways and public spaces

Today, Eco Clean Marine continues to focus on its original mission: bringing people together to protect the places we love while inspiring the next generation to become stewards of our environment.

After all, if we can change hearts, we can change the future.
